The story behind the Shuffle Hooks

Hue Minimals approach to design as a brand that focuses on accuracy, is manifested in full in our Shuffle Hooks. These hooks seem simple though they are the result of an extensive dialogue between our designers and the way we perceive the use of the hooks and their appearance in one’s home, while on the other side, it’s a dialogue between designer and manufacturing technology.

We wanted to create a combination of a few elements; three basic shapes and three basic colors which we could then play with, shuffle them around to create an interesting appearance on the wall. This notion subsequently led to the name of the designed objects.
As with some of our products, the dialogue started with cutting cards in basic shapes and various dimensions. We wanted to get immediate tactile feedback from the array of shapes that started gathering in the studio, and thus our office and studio became a playground while we all shuffled these playful colored cards around the walls.

An interesting detail that was created through this process was the minimal space between the hooks surface and the wall. It’s a functional detail that allows for easier hanging of garments and a safe way to hang jewellery but it also creates an interesting visual effect which might go unnoticed, that is a slim shadow around the hook which is complimented by the two black screw heads.

The Shuffle Hooks were initially designed to be made out of plastic through a mass production process of injection molding but after producing the first models we decided to change our approach and move to metal sheet stamping. We felt that while plastic was a good choice in terms of mass production and assembly, the hooks were too lightweight. We were looking for a specific feeling for our customers, especially after receiving and opening its package. These hooks are perfect as a gift so we wanted the moment of opening the package to celebrate the process and simplicity of the design and in fact, display its beauty.
